Ongoing Vedic Astrology Classes

Dennis teaches all of his classes and workshops in the time honored tradition of “Shruti”, which in Sanskrit means that which is heard. In this way there is a direct connection between the teacher and the student.  All classes and workshops are available through live phone conferencing so the student can participate in a real time learning environment no matter where they reside, locally, nationally or internationally.  Your instructor, Dennis Flaherty, is one of the four foundational people who co-sponsored the International Symposiums on Vedic Astrology that brought the great teachers of Vedic Astrology to speak to live western audiences the last two decades.  He continues that tradition each year by offering live phone conferencing classes in Vedic Astrology at the NW Institute of Vedic Sciences. Dennis is one of the founding members of the American College of Vedic Astrology (ACVA). He is an approved teacher of the ACVA and all classes and workshops count toward ACVA certification.

The Bhavas of Vedic Astrology: The Places of Your Life

There are 12 Bhavas, or Houses, of the astrological chart that encompass the total field of our human experience. This workshop will present the places in our lives that each Bhava represents in comprehensive detail. Further, this class will explore the interpretative tools of the Bhava Karakas, Sthanna Bala, Ashtakavarga and Bhavat Bavam, potent tools that allow the Vedic astrologer to correctly weigh the power places of the Vedic chart. Without a complete knowledge of the places that each Bhava represents, the serious student of Vedic astrology is lost in their chart interpretation, like a traveler without a GPS compass! This class is a must for all Level I and II certification students.

Where Heaven Touches Earth: Left-Brained Astronomy for Right-Minded Vedic Astrologers

The early Vedic astrologers were calendar makers entrusted by community to choose the favorable and unfavorable times for alignment with the heavens for all activities. In this class Dennis will present a right-minded overview of the heavens from an astronomical point of view that explains the astrological symbolism of the sidereal zodiac, the Nakshatras, the fixed stars, the rotation of the earth and the rising and falling of the constellations and the partitioning of the chart that is derived from this movement. Dennis will clearly explain in this workshop how the laws of astronomy translate into the symbolism we call Vedic astrology.

Shining A Light On The Twilight Rasi, Bhava, and Graha Sandhis

Twilight refers to the period of time between night and sunrise or between sunset and night, an in-between state that is not clearly defined, yet nevertheless a prophetic junction point in perception. These in-between junctions are called Sandhis and often are misunderstood or feared by the student of Vedic Astrology. Dennis will shine a light on the collective Sthanna Sandhis illuminating what is often a confusing subject starting with the Riksha Sandhis, the junction of two constellations, and the controversial Gandanta Sandhis, the dreaded junctures of the Water and Fire Nakshatras. Dennis will clarify in great detail the Bhava Sandhis, in particular the twilight Trik Bhavas of 6,8 and 12. Lastly, this class will discuss the Avastha Graha Sandhis examing the early and late degrees of the planets, as well as Sankranti, the Sun’s ingress from one constellation to another, concluding with Dasa Chidra, the junction of two Dasas. Understanding the A to Z of Vedic Chart Analysis and Prediction

Keven Barrett will present a comprehensive workshop on the powerful techniques he has come to rely on to hone in on each client’s character and destiny. He will reveal his time proven strategies to maximize the positive, and to minimize the negative potential of each chart. Keven’s focus on future trends and prediction techniques will give all practicing students of Vedic astrology the tools they need to become a “spot on” professional astrologer. This class will be taught in an easy to understand manner, readily available to both the eastern and western astrologer alike.

Keven has been a full time Professional Vedic Astrologer since the mid 1960’s. Originally a Tropical Astrologer, who found this system lacking, he taught himself the Vedic system as there no practicing Vedic Astrologers in 1975. Manik Chand Jain discovered Keven at an Australian International Conference in 1980 and invited him to India to lecture and for a three month course of study. Since then Keven has lectured in New Zealand, UK, Spain, India and the USA many times. Keven is the emeritus President of the Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA) NSW, Emeritus National President FAA, Founder and President of the Australian Council of Vedic Astrology (OZCVA). He is also a life member and accredited teacher and tutor of the American College of Vedic Astrology (ACVA).

Sacred Planets: A Hands-on Workshop in Numeric Yantra

Yantra springs from Vedic traditions as a tool in gaining transcendence in consciousness. Used traditionally with assigned sound, yantra is the geometrically-prescribed visual representation of Divinity, including specific planetary divinities. These divine aspects are assigned form, color, number, sound and direction. Each planetary body has a corresponding numeric yantra, arranged as a “magic square” of nine divisions. Numeric yantra, or numeric yantra accompanied within appropriate planetary mantra, can be used as a practice to either enhance or remedy planetary aspects in one’s astrological chart. In this workshop Dennis will choose a planet for each participant based on their astrological chart and Penny will present a brief demonstration of corresponding planetary mantras, and demonstrate how to construct a planetary numeric yantra. The workshop will then focus on the individual creation and short utilization of a numeric yantra in actual practice. Each workshop participant will leave with a beautiful self-created, matted 11X14” numeric yantra and the understanding of how to use it as a prescribed planetary propitiation in your own practice. Workshop fee includes all art materials.
